New School Session 2016-2017

New School Session 2016-17

I hope you and your family are enjoying a peaceful and refreshing Summer holiday.

I am writing to provide you with some important information about our new session which begins for pupils on Tuesday 23rd August and to remind you of how we communicate with parents and how you can support the school with regards to school uniform etc.

School Calendar

Enclosed you will find a draft Parent Calendar (Session 2016-17) – please put this somewhere safe as it includes important information, including Reporting and School Holiday dates for the session.  Note that dates for some events on the calendar are subject to change and that next session our school events will start earlier, following our recent consultation with parents. For more information about these changes see our June Newsletter on our website. Updates will be posted on our website where you can download the most current version. Alternatively you are welcome to call the school office if you have any queries.

Communications

The school will continue to provide newsletters throughout the session and will post these on our school website and on our Twitter account. In addition we will also send brief updates and reminders to parents by text and email. If you do not have access to email please inform the school office so that arrangements can be made for your child to collect a hard copy where possible for delivery through your child’s school bag. It is important that your email address and phone numbers are always up-to-date so that you are kept fully informed of all that is happening in school. Updates and other information is regularly posted on our website and on our school Twitter account. If you haven’t already done so please consider getting yourself a Twitter account and following us @StModansHS – ask the school for help if you don’t know how to do this as this provides regular updates, reminders and posts on our pupil and school achievements.

School Uniform

You will be aware that St Modan’s sets the highest of standards with regards to the wearing of school uniform. I would like to thank you all for your wonderful support in this regard as I know the tremendously positive impact the wearing of uniform has on many aspects of our school, not least attitudes and behaviour.

No clearer sign of support for the ethos, values and community of our school can be given than the wearing of our uniform.  Please note in particular that leggings, short skirts, tight-fit trousers of any kind, denim, training shoes (or trainer-type shoes), sports and ‘designer’ clothing are not permitted and that suitable footwear is considered to be black formal school shoes only. It is also important that all our pupils are protected in poor weather so the purchase of a school jacket and/or school blazer is essential. ALL pupils should arrive to school wearing maroon and only the school jacket and/or blazer is acceptable – please do not purchase any other form of jacket as our uniform policy will be rigorously enforced from the first day back. If you require further clarification please refer to our uniform pages on our website or contact a member of our school office.
