Education Maintenance Award (EMA)

Is your child over 16 and at School?

An Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is an allowance of up to £30 per week payable to eligible young people who stay in full-time education at school after their 16th birthday. It can be paid for a maximum of 3 consecutive years, and must be applied for each year.

Not everyone is eligible as this award is means-tested and depends on family income etc but a great many of our young people are able to take advantage of this. If eligible, those awarded must agree to certain conditions eg excellent attendance at school etc.

More information is available from EMA Scotland.
