Further Update for Parents

Dear Parents/Carers

Further to our notification yesterday of an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting at St Modan’s High School in Stirling, we would like to remind parents about the importance of adopting measures to try to prevent the spread.

Could we ask that pupils who feel unwell are kept away from school and that those who have been ill must not return to school until 48 hours after symptoms disappear.

Hands should be washed thoroughly with soap and water particularly after going to the toilet and before eating. Videos of handwashing techniques are being displayed on TV screens within the school.

Please note that alcohol based hand sanitisers are not effective in dealing with this type of illness. Keep all surfaces clean, for example desks and computing equipment.

Deep cleaning is being carried out in all areas of the school and although samples are currently being tested , the symptoms indicate those of norovirus, a mild self-limiting illness also known as the winter vomiting bug.

We will continue to update you.
