Uniform

Dear Parent/Carer

Uniform

As you know St Modan’s pupils have a tremendous reputation for being beautifully turned out in school uniform and this is due to the enormous support we get from our parents and carers. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and I hope you would agree with me when I say that all pupils benefit in a number of ways.

Nevertheless, I wanted to let you know that there has been a slight but noticeable decline in the standards of our school uniform in recent weeks – this affects only a small but increasing number of pupils wearing items of clothing which do not meet the standards outlined in our uniform policy – in particular, outdoor jackets, leggings and trainers. We need your support to ensure we return promptly to setting the highest standards that we have become so accustomed to. The vast majority of pupils continue to be turned out beautifully and are a real credit to you and the school – it’s important that this continues to be the case for all.

The wearing of uniform encourages: a strong sense of identity and pride in our school; it enables staff to identify our pupils easily on the school premises to ensure their safety; it protects parents from the financial pressures of having to buy expensive fashion items and encourages a sense of community and collective responsibility amongst both pupils and staff.

Spot-Checks

Next week members of staff will conduct spot checks each morning and throughout the week focussing on those wearing Leggings, Trainers or Outdoor Jackets (other than the St Modan’s jacket),

Pupils arriving to school wearing non-uniform items will, in the first instance be instructed to remove them and to replace them with acceptable school-wear which meets the standards set out in our school uniform policy. In some cases such items will be confiscated until the end of the day. This will be monitored throughout the coming weeks. In cases where pupils repeatedly fail to meet the high standard of uniform expected the usual school sanctions will apply and, where necessary parents contacted.

I know, of course that uniform items are not cheap so If, for any reason you feel unable to provide sufficient appropriate items of uniform or that you require advice or assistance please contact your child’s PSD teacher or PT PSD who will be happy to help.

Once again, huge thanks to all of you who support our uniform policy – this support is hugely appreciated.

I have attached a copy of our Uniform Leaflet for your information.
